Weekend Pick: the 3rd Kadeejeen Art Festival

January 25th, 2012

Another street festival is hitting Bangkok’s alleys and sois right after Chinese New Year. Every evening this weekend, from Friday 27th until Sunday 29th, the neighbourhoods just across the river from Memorial Bridge or Saphan Phut (a melting pot of Chinese, Portuguese, Muslim and Thai culture and history) are hosting the 3rd Kadeejeen Art in Sois Festival. For the third year in a row, local artists, schools as well as religious and community organizations have organized a long list of public exhibitions, cultural performances and talks in collaboration with the Association of Siamese Architects. You’ll be able to join a guided walk of the neighbourhood (Fri & Sat 5-6:30pm), or a bicycle tour (Sun 9am), or discover Thailand’s ties with Portugal (Sat 27 Jan from 4pm onwards, around Santa Cruz church): sample Thai-Portuguese cuisine and be one of the first to stroll through the Thai-Portuguese Cultural Heritage Museum.  Trok Dilokchan, an alley in the Klongsan neighbourhood, will also be transformed into a walking street lined with stalls to browse and numerous exhibitions to admire (among them the light installation ‘In the Moon’s Shadow’).  For the full line-up in English click here, a map here, and for Thai click here.
