3rd Rock Gallery proudly presents the first exhibition of 2017, “Rên: Retreat to Nostalgic Dreamland” by Pong Thangthong. He is an art director and advertising producer for Thai TV and commercial industry for more than a decade. Currently, he is a guest lecturer at Silpakorn University. He dedicates himself to produce movie by using “Stop Motion”, an animation technique that physically manipulates an object to appears to move on its own and dreams to produce the first movie in Thailand by using this technique. Today, Pong Thangthong will share his experiences in this new exhibition.
He produced his first work from his unsolved feeling, which he had from funeral at a nursing house. He questioned himself about human past, life, and death. “Dreamland” is a medical term for a patient who creates safe zone/comfort zone in his/her mind to relax, relieve loneliness, and to be able to live. From this one word, Pong Thangthong creates his masterpiece in the concept of Rên : Retreat to Nostalagic Dreamland. The work will emphasize his feeling, mysterious, and loneliness in form of sculptures, paintings, drawings, woodcuts, and mix-medias.
