Slide on your Wranglers, grab your stars-and-stripes bandana, and put some Springsteen on the iPod. The 4th of July is coming in hot. Americans and non-Americans alike have good reason to come together this Saturday, as Bangkok is as busy as ever on July 4, but those in the mood for slightly more festive affairs shouldn’t miss these four American Independence Day events.
The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham, for short) welcomes one and all to its annual Independence Day Picnic. Held at KIS International School (Pracha Uthit Rd), the event includes live music and lots of food, games, and competitions, including a pie eating contest and the Big Chili Cook-off, which pits bowl against bowl in a battle of big, bold, bean-filled bites.
In Ekamai, Mikkeller has organized a barbecue in the garden, featuring four craft beers on tap and two special draft cocktails. Also available will be a load of top-notch American brews from the likes of 3 Floyds, 18th Street, Modern Times, and Gigantic.
At night, head over to Sway for MERICA, a celebration of the most bombastic and ironic of modern American traditions. There will be deals on wings and beer all night, as well as a beer pong tournament, a rite of passage among university students and young adults. The winning team is promised a case of Budweiser.
The monthly Bangkok Hilarious comedy night salutes the US of A at Overground Bar & Cafe on Sukhumvit 22. The host is British “oppressor” Graham Wooding. DJ Pornstache spins tunes before and after acts that include Stacy Williams, Jonathan Samson, and William Childress.
