Celebrate all things gin-related as the 5th annual East Imperial Gin Jubilee kicks off in Bangkok for the first time—from January 31st to February 4th. After successful stints in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Phnom Penh, and Singapore, Asia’s premier gin festival now comes to Bangkok, deciding once and for all who does the city’s best G&T.
Over the course of five days, 17 of Bangkok’s best bartenders are vying for this prestigious award. Each participating bar has paired East Imperial Burma Tonic with a partner gin brand, ranging from big brands such as Hendrick’s and Bombay Sapphire, to local artisan gins like Grandma Jinn’s and Iron Balls Gin. The rest of the recipe is up to the individual bartender, who will have free rein to showcase their creativity. The winning bar and bartender will then be unveiled at the Gin Lane closing street party on February 4th, at Quaint. The winner will receive a Silver Tankard trophy and a trip to Singapore to attend the Singapore Cocktail Festival in March, with a guest bartending shift at the newly launched Atlas Grand Lobby and Bar.
The party—which is free to attend— will also showcase a series of pop up bars and gin brands, where guests have the opportunity to try some of the competing bars’ G&T creations for B200 per drink. By bringing together some of the world’s finest gins, the city’s best bartenders, and many gin novices and aficionados alike, the festival aims to explore gin culture, and redefine the traditional G&T. Throughout the week, imbibers can also expect a series of masterclasses, workshops and guest bartending shifts around town, alongside gin & tonic culinary pairing specials, and a Gin Ramble bar trail. In addition, there will be “Ginstagram” competition, with a chance to win a three-day trip to the Singapore Cocktail Festival in March 2017.
