In his first series, a portrait of the Thai working class, Sarawut Thaichuai conveys the corrosion of life in down-and-out Thailand. Using an avant-garde approach dubbed “Living Art,” the paintings have a lifespan of 35 to 50 years; as times passes, the rust mixed into the paint will eat away the images, causing them to crack and flake. This is a limited collection, a s the toxic ingredients used in the process are hazardous to the artist’s health.
