Dive into Sukhumvit Soi 11’s newest boozy brunch
In a city where weekend brunches hold an almost iconic status in our collective consciousness, one never has to look too far to satisfy their needs. High-end hotels and hipster hotspots have dominated the scene for years, but Sukhumvit Soi 11 has not always been at the top of the list for the brunch crowd. However, that is about to change with the introduction of the ‘Craving Brunch’ promotion that was recently rolled out at Crave Wine Bar & Restaurant at the Aloft Hotel. Taking place on the third Saturday of each month, it is a laid back and vibrant mid-day alternative that will appeal to those who appreciate getting some real “bang for their buck”. Priced at just B999 net for free flow food, beer, cocktails and wine, or just B599 net for food, juice and soft drinks, this experience is available to everyone.
The restaurant’s industrial chic design aesthetics are expressed by a bright yellow and orange colour scheme, contrasted by soothing soft brown, baby blue, and elegant crème hues. Exposed ducts on the ceiling, mix-n-match tables and chairs, and a playful and youthful energy, all evoke a charming laid back sense of style.
This once-a-month brunch takes place from noon to 4pm, and guests are encouraged to take their time, relax, and enjoy a slow-paced day of feasting and socializing. The buffet includes the standard seafood (blue crab, mussels, and shrimp) and sushi section, salad bar, Chinese, Thai, and Italian pasta bar sections, as well as Western and Asian hot dishes—such as stir-fries and stews—as well as cold cuts, bread and cheese along with a well-appointed dessert section. In addition to this, look for their à la minute hot grilled section with lamb, pork, beef, prawn, and squid, all made to order and gilled over an open flame.
Other highlights include their signature ‘Bamboo Shoots’, which are a play on the traditional Thai dessert with sticky rice grilled in bamboo shoots called Khao Lam. They offer a savory version made with either chicken or sea bass mixed with a delightful selection of Thai herbs and spices for a unique and delectable experience you won’t find anywhere else. There’s also a “design your own” pasta dish with Thai basil, chili, anchovy, capers, grilled prawns, olive oil and Parmesan cheese. And for dessert, don’t miss their pineapple pana cotta and their signature rainbow crêpes, where you get to pick your own ice cream, toppings, and sauces.
Crave also offers a large terrace—attached to the main dining room—for lounging and chilling-out. It’s a perfect place to take it up a notch and choose from their craft cocktails list (which includes a stunning array of 16 different concoctions). We particularly enjoyed the Rosy, made from Kentucky bourbon, Cointreau, syrup, lemon, and a fresh sprig of torched rosemary.
Crave is a great new option for those looking for a budget friendly brunch that is generous with the booze and offers tasty food. As an added bonus for those who are nostalgic for the video games and paraphernalia made famous in circa 1980’s USA, be sure to check out the Pac Man arcade game located in the lobby of the hotel. No coins are needed, as playing the game is complimentary and just another wonderful element to enhance the overall sense of fun.
