Until May 13
Thai artist Jakkai Siributr (born in 1969) explores social contradictions and political frictions in Thailand and Southeast Asia today. Through a combination of irony and empathy, his work casts a critical eye on entrenched customs and power-holders, probing legitimacy. His oeuvre encompasses all contemporary media, utilizing techniques, images, and vernacular materials which act as conceptual clues via their embedded cultural references, communicating complex ideas. In this predominantly new body of work— a H Gallery exhibition curated by Iola Lenzi for BACC—the politics of ethnicity and religion extends to an investigation of sectarian violence from Thailand to Myanmar
