Single? No dates on the horizon? Already tried the Lover’s Shrine? And won’t go near Thai Friendly or one of those other creep-filled dating websites? If you’ve exhausted all your options on Bangkok’s dating scene, don’t fret, as there is now another one just in time for Valentine’s Day… Outdoor shopping mall Asiatique Riverfront (Charoenkrung Road, Wat Prayakrai District | 02-108-4488) has just unveiled a replica of Verona’s Juliet, the iconic bronze statue famous for bestowing luck-in-love upon those who rub her right breast. The faux-Italian courtyard, or Juliet Love Garden, in which she stands also includes a balcony where you can cry “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” at the top of your lungs. And, so that those of you already blessed with a lover don’t feel left out, there’s also a fountain in which you can toss away the keys to the his-and-her (or his-and-his or her-and-her) love padlocks you’ve just purchased. A charitable gift to the romantically impoverished – or just another PR-garnering excuse to take yet more pictures of you and your friends? Confirming our suspicion that it might be the latter is the current photo contest: take a picture of yourself touching up Juliet, upload it to www.facebook.com/JulietLoveGardenBangkok and the one with the most votes will win a Valentine’s dinner with a celebrity couple.
