The Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants was held in Macau for the second year in a row last night and this year brought a few surprising results.
The annual award ceremony, a sub-ceremony to the World’s 50 Best, takes judges and dines at restaurants from across the region to find the best restaurants Asia has to offer.
In recent years Gaggan has been Asia’s number one restaurant, holding first place for four consecutive years as well as a regular in the World’s 50 Best placing 5th in the 2018 list. However this year Gaggan is placed 2nd, overtaken by Asia’s new champion restaurant Odette, Singapore. In 3rd place is Tokyo’s Den Restaurant followed by our very own Sühring.
Gaggan’s former sous chef Garima Arora of Gaa placed 16th in the 2019 List on the back of winning Asia’s Best Female Chef 2019 and receiving a Michelin Star late last year. You can read more about her for upscale, modern Indian cuisine in our Breaking Bread series here.
