The well-preserved Khmer ruins of Phimai Historical Park predate Cambodia’s world famous Angkor Wat. In fact, some scholars believe they may have served as a model for its construction. The Phimai Festival not only pays homage to the past, but also embraces the state of the present. Long-tail boat races, light and sound shows, and handicraft sales galore take place in the shadow of the sandstone ruins. The historical site is about one hour by bus from the bus station in Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima).
