August 18-September 25
The 44 year-old artist Douglas Diaz resides in a small town nestled in the mountain side of Nara, Japan. There he creates work that investigates his own identity and challenges the fears that lurk in the shadows of his psyche. The quest to create this work is binary in nature—it is personal and individualistic, yet explores the themes that make us human. In this exhibition, his first in Thailand, he utilizes graphite and oil, on oversized canvas pieces, suggesting a near primitive state in which the work was realized. This reductive approach of simple yet organic forms speaks to the honesty discovered through the quest.
