Japanese landscapes and heritage feature largely in Kansuke Morioka’s silkscreen prints. These works represent the scenery of Kumano, a series of ancient pilgrimage routes in Japan listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Images of a small boat sailing on the vast sea, icebergs, islets, mountains, forests, temples, shrines, and the moon shining in the sky are all symbols of the sacred journey, as well as cornerstones of the faith kept strong by the Japanese of centuries past.
