Jim Thompson Farm Tour
Until January 7
The Jim Thompson Farm in Nakhon Ratchasima province has become one of the most popular agro and eco tourist attractions in Thailand, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of activities amidst the picturesque rural landscape—but it only happens once in a year! The theme for the Jim Thompson Farm Tour 2017 is water, and the event is entitled Rushing Water – The Life Force of Isaan. It incorporates all the history, legends, and activities that relate to water. The farm is open during this limited period from 9am to 5pm daily. Weekday admission is B180/130 (adult/child) and B220/160 on weekends.
Bo Sang Umbrella Festival
The annual three-day Bo Sang Umbrella Festival honours the efforts of local artisans in Chiang Mai province. These magnificent umbrellas (bo sang) are created using mulberry bark paper which is then hand painted in trademark style. Enjoy the amazing artwork by the light of day, and then stay for the illuminated umbrella displays at night where they are lit up like lanterns. Other fun events include a parade, cultural shows, traditional market, beauty pageant, live music, dancing, and carnival games.
Colour of Doi Tung Festival
Until January 28
After last year’s success the Colours of Doi Tung Festival returns, transforming the mountains of Doi Tung, in Chiang Rai province, into the highest elevated walking street in Thailand (1,000 metres above sea level). It will be filled with shops, food and coffee stalls, arts, and entertainment. Explore the cultures of the six ethnic minorities in Doi Tung—the Akha, Lahu, Shan, Thai Lue, Lawa, and the Chinese—through handicrafts, food, and performances. There will also be DIY workshops, including ceramics and making the traditional Lanna flag, or tung, both of which make for great take home souvenirs.
Blooming Sunflower Festival
Until January 31
The always popular Blooming Sunflower Festival is an annual event, wherein thousands of acres in Lopburi province are filled to bursting with beautiful bright yellow sunflowers in full bloom. Enjoy taking photos, taking in the scenery, and maybe even riding a bike through the bright yellow hillsides. OTOP products are also available for purchase in the adjacent markets, or just chill among the beautiful flowers. The event also features adventure-style outings, such as tours with soldiers living in the wild, recreational boating, tire floating, rowing, shooting, learning how to survive in the forest, and so on.
